Connect. Contribute. Protect Patients.

GaHIN’s Red Blood Cell (RBC) Antibody Initiative is a statewide initiative ensuring that critical alloantibody history follows the patient wherever care is delivered.

By connecting hospitals, laboratories, and blood banks through Georgia’s state-designated Health Information Exchange, GaHIN enables secure sharing of RBC antibody results across care settings. Because antibodies may not always be detectable at subsequent facilities, missing history can lead to incompatible transfusions and life-threatening hemolytic reactions.

Through the cohort, authorized clinicians and transfusion services can access a comprehensive antibody history before blood is issued, reducing avoidable risk and strengthening transfusion safety across Georgia.

Built on GaHIN’s integrated whole-person health platform, the RBC Antibody Cohort advances clinical decision-making, improves care coordination, and supports evolving interoperability standards. Participation ensures that critical transfusion data does not remain siloed and that antibody history is available when it matters most — at the point of care.
